Our Entrepreneurial Journey: From Design to Podcasting

My entrepreneurial journey is one of not only business, but also love, personal growth, and introspection. When I began my journey, little did I know that I would find a partner to share in my exploration and learning. 

I’m Kim Russo, owner of On Brand Designs and creator of the Profitable Brand Designer, and I’m delighted to share the wisdom and learning that I and my partner Jeremy and I have gained during our journey.

The Beginnings of On Brand Designs

My entrepreneurial story began in September 2018 with the launch of On Brand Designs. Creativity has always been a core part of my identity—from childhood drawings to specializing in packaging design at FIT in New York City. After over a decade of seeing my designs adorn store shelves, I was ready to step into the realm of business ownership. But, transitioning from a creative expert to a business-savvy entrepreneur meant bridging a significant gap in skills and mindset.

Meeting Jeremy: A Partnership Forms

The real transformation in my journey began when I met Jeremy. It wasn’t just a personal milestone; it catalyzed a profound shift in my business approach. As the world embraced lockdowns, Jeremy and I found ourselves blessed with the opportunity to bond deeply and refine our visions for the future.

Jeremy’s robust entrepreneurial spirit and astute business acumen were instrumental. His support helped me move beyond the freelancer’s mindset to embrace the broader responsibilities of a business owner. We invested time in learning, bravely navigated through challenges together, and slowly I transitioned into a role where I wasn’t just creating but also strategically growing my business.

Embracing Change and Community

A pivotal lesson in our journey was recognizing the power of mindset and community. As a natural introvert, the notion of networking was daunting. Yet, Jeremy’s outgoing nature and confidence inspired me to step beyond my comfort zone—transforming networking from a feared activity into an engaging and beneficial one.

This evolution wasn’t just about personal growth. It was crucial for the advancement of On Brand Designs. Networking, paired with a proactive approach to marketing and self-promotion, reshaped my business and set new benchmarks for what I could achieve.

Continuous Learning and Forward Outlook

Through our experiences, both personal and professional, Jeremy and I have learned that entrepreneurship is more than just a venture—it’s a continuous journey of learning and adaptation. Understanding the business side of creativity and investing in ourselves has been key to our success. Looking ahead, we’re excited about the future.
